I bet you thought I was going to say "Post-Meet Blues". Those are 100% real but sometimes they manifest differently.
I've talked about it before, but post-meet prep had me in a serious down. As some of you know, I deal with anxiety and depression. It happens mostly under stress and sometimes just out of nowhere. I don't take medication for it, although I have gone to therapy. A good routine and schedule help me tremendously so after a meet since training tends to not be as important anymore, I find myself in a slump. Being there too long leads to negative talk and feelings of unworthiness.
There are many different ways to get passed “post-meet blues” and for some, it’s not as serious as getting ahead of it before we start dealing with anxiety attacks or depression. It’s become clear that consistent training and a routine that includes an active lifestyle can help with anxiety. I’m not a mental health expert, but this is true for me.
Thankfully, I caught it this time before it got really bad. I was able to express my feelings to my husband and work some things out that way. I've also gotten myself back into a workout routine. A combination of powerlifting and other things to get me moving and feeling good again.
I wanted to share this with you guys as a reminder that you are never alone! We created this space for you to feel that. Whether your anxiety shows up differently than mine, I'm sure that there is someone in this group that can relate. We're in it together!
Yes exactly ! I just finished a meet this past weekend, and boy this week has been really off!! Just what I needed to hear! Let’s keep getting this work!!! ❤️
I needed to read this. I’ve been struggling ever since my meet ended. I feel a little all over the place program wise and honestly, just really raw emotionally.
